Welcome to Adiyen Sri Ramanuja Dasan !
" Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha !"
The next ritual is called ‘Thomala Seva’ which mean ‘Adorning Lord with different garlands’. According to Vaikhanasa Bhagavachhastram, which is the governing eules for Rituals in Tirumala temple, this is also called ‘Pratahkala Archana’, some pious call this ‘Tiruvaradhanam’. In this main Worship Sequence for the day, Lord is given different Upacharas as prescribed by Vaikhanasa texts, with as many as 32 Upacharams. And at the completion of Upacharams, Lord’s Dhruva Bera is adorned with different sizes of flower garlands.
After Thomala Seva, now the Lord is offered with Koluvu. This is also called as ‘yAtrAsanam’ in Vaikhanasa Agama terminology. In this yAtrAsanam, Koluvu Srinivasa Murthy idol participates and after offering Upacharas as prescribed, in this ritual, the Lord is offered with ‘tilApishtam’ or ‘Nuvvula Chimmiri’ Prasadam. This is made by mixing Jaggery and black sesame in to a powder. Also there will be butter offering while performing Harathi at the end of the ritual.
After this Sahasranamarchana is performed, then the Archana Ananthara Darsan continues.
As soon as the Archana Ananthara Darsan is over, Lord is offered with I Bell or I Food Offering or ‘modaTi GanTa nivEdana’. The tradition at the temple is some of the prasadams are placed inside the sanctum and some are placed in the Sayana Mantapam. A Paricharaka aloudly says ‘talihai..’ to prompt the Potu Vaishnavas to bring the Prasadams that are offered to Lord Srinivasa. Then the Potu Vaishnavas bring Maatrannam, Suddhannam, Small Laddu, Vada and place it inside the Sanctum.
In these items, Maatrannam is considered an important prasadam since this prasadam is directly placed inside Sanctum, at a little hight and it is first offered to Lord. It is also called as ‘Sandhi’, since it is treated as ‘All Prasadams into one’, while the Archaka offers the Naivedyam.
Maatrannam: This Prasadam is made with Rice, Curd, Sonti and lots of Butter. Rice is mixed with Curds, Sonti and salt and then Butter is topped on this. It again reminds us that Lord is still enjoying what he has done in HIS previous incarnation as Lord Krishna.
This Maatrannam is distributed to Sri Vaishnavas in Sathumorai Seva by Vaikhanasa Archakas.
In the Sayana Mantapam, to the left of Mulavirat Dhruva Bera, in the first column, Suddhannam, Dadhyodhanam, Pulihora, Kadambam, Ven Pongal are placed. In the second column, Chakra Pongal, Dadhyodhanam are placed. These placings are conventions followed by Potu Vaishnavas so that they don’t get confused which Gangalam is placed where. But regarding the prasadams placed inside Sanctum the above convention is a must (Placing Maatrannam above all).
Dadhyodhanam: This is made with Rice and Curd, a little Sonti and seasoning with Mustard. This is delicious.
