Welcome to Adiyen Sri Ramanuja Dasan !
" Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha !"
Do u know who (and where) will initiate Diksha or Pattam for the HH Pedda Jeeyangar and HH Chinna Jeeyangar, Ekangi , who form an integral part of the tirumala temple. After getting the Diksha the Jeeyangars or Ekangi will have the Pattam ceremony.
The HH Pedda Jeeyangar Swamy, Chinna Jeeyangar Swami and the Ekangi are an integral part of the Tirumala Hill temple. In the olden days before Bhagavad Ramanujacharya, there was only one 'Ekangi Muttam' in Tirumala Hills. From the Ekangi Muttam, a Srivaishnavaite Brahmachari, will assist the Archaka in performing the nithya kainkaryams, by getting the flower garlands from 'Yamunottarai' (a place where the flower garlands for adoring the lord are preserved, it can be located in the Padi Potu, near VagaPadi in the Second Prakaram, North-East Corner), by litting the Harathi and giving it in the hands of the Archaka, by wavering the hand fan to Archaka as well as the lord (Aalavattam).
When Bhagavad Ramanuja visited this holy shrine, he thought to establish a Muttam seperately for Pedda Jeeyangar. Prior to that the Ekangi is not selected or not tested, like there is no set system for selecting Ekangi and all. So by the advice of Bhagavad Ramanuja, the king ruling that time, has constructed the Govindaraja Shrine near Kottur (where the Parthasarathy Sannidhi, which is a part of Sri GT now, is located) and it lead to the evolution of Tirupati City. In the Govindaraja Shrine, Bhagavad Ramanuja sannidhi is present in the outer prakaram. So to design a system for selecting the Ekangi, Bhagavad Ramanuja at that time adviced that the Diksha for Ekangi and Pedda Jeeyangar (also Chinna Jeeyangar) be given by the ARCHAKA of Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple and then the Diksha sweekartha will have 'Pattam' ceremony with TTD honors. That time the need for HH Chinna Jeeyangar Muttam was not felt. But as the time progressed and the number of Utsavams increased in Tirumala and Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple, there required another Jeeyangari Muttam. So from then onwards, there are HH Peddajeeyangari Muttam, Chinna Jeeyangari Muttam. But Ekangi Muttam which was the original Muttam that time merged with HH Pedda Jeeyangari Muttam and from then Ekangi became as a subordinate for HH Peddajeeyangar.
I was told that, Jeeyangars are sanyasi's and the sanyasi diksha as well samasrayanam to Chinna jeeyar and Ekangi is done by Pedda Jeeyar swami and Samasrayanam and sanyasi diksha for Pedda Jeeyangaru is given by his acharya (who would be Previous Pedda Jeeyangaru of the Tirumal Mutt). Also heard, that diksha for taking up sanyasam can be given already practising sanyasi only.
Also, though out of place, i would like to inform those members who don't know about the history of GovindaRaja shrine in brief. The GovindaRaja deity which was established in Tirupati by Sri Bhagavad Ramanuja, is the original GovindaRaja deity at chidabaram vishnu shrine. This original shrine deity was removed and thrown into the deep sea by a Jealous savaite and chola King called Kullothunga Chola (1 or 2). History and scriptures say that this cruel saivaite king died due to some incurable disease like throat cancer, due to the abominal sin committed towards Bhagavad Ramanuja and GovindaRaja deity. Bhagavad Ramanuja retrieved this original deity from the sea by his mystic powers and established a shrine for the Lord at diguva Tirupati, which is now called GovindaRaja shrine.
