Tirumala Tirupati

Welcome to Adiyen Sri Ramanuja Dasan !

" Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha !"

93. Q .: Poolangi seva Swamy, please tell us. what actually is poolangi seva . why is the thirunaman so thin on that day(thrusdays) . At wat time it is done . what are the special pooja if any? Is the big namam removed completely and thin namam drawn again or how. Is lord given a face wash? (because the face might have stains of big namam).

Ans .: Poolangi Seva is performed to Mulavirat idol of Lord Venkateswara every Thursday evening in Srivari temple, Tirumala hills. Poolangi means ' a dress like made with full of flowers', so poolangi seva means lord Venkateswara's idol is decorated with full of flowers, which is really HIS divine grace to watch this darsan.

Every Thursday evening around 7:30 pm, this poolangi seva is performed. There are no seva tickets for this, all the pilgrims can see this seva if they go for darsan on the Thursday nights. The Camphor Tilak is also made thin on Thursday morning itself and every thursday we can have nethra darsanam. It is part of preparation for Friday Abhishekam to make this tilak thin and the jewels are rempved in the Thursday morning. We can see the eyes of Lord Venkateswara's idol, which is normally covered with camphor tilak. The namam is cut on the both sides so that the eyes can be seen and the remaining camphors in the face are cleansed with 'punugu thailam'.

94. Q .: Is "Ankurarpanam" performed for "Kalyanotsavam" also? If it is performed, how can we monitor the progress of the Navadhanyas (9 different seeds) sowed for a ritual like, "Kalyanotsavam", which starts and finishes on the same day itself? Is the "Ankurarpanam" performed everytime a "Kalyanotsavam" is performed?

Ans .: Ankuraropana is also performed for the daily Kalyanotsavam, infact it is an inseperable part of all Vaikhanasa rituals which essentially contain Homams. In Vaikhanasa Scriptures, for Utsavams, which will start and conclude on the same day itself, there is 'Sadyonkuraropanam' prescribed. It is slightly different from the Ankuraropanam which is observed for bigger Utsavams, which are held more than one day. All the rites prescribed in Ankuraropanam are done in the Sadyonkuraropanam, except an intricate detail. Some dravyams and adhidevathas are changed in Sadyonkuraropanam, except then it is similar to the former.

94. Q .: What aspects does "Vishnu" Puranam & "Bhagavatham" cover?
In what way they are different? Both written by Vyasa Maharshi, do they anytime mention about Lord Rama while describing the Incarnations of Lord Vishnu?
(3)In one of the posts, I came to know Lord Vishnu actually has 8 hands. Please also clarify how many "heads" & "eyes" does Lord Vishnu has.(The Purusha suktha goes like.. Sahasra sheersha Purushaha Sahasraakshassahasra path.) Please also let me know how many "hoods" Adishesha has. Sometimes it is mentioned "five, sometimes "seven" & sometimes "thousand" Please clarify regarding this.
