SRI TALLAPAAKA ANNAMAACHARYA - 601 YEAR JAYANTHI
Its indeed a great privilege for adiyen to write about sri tallapaka annamacharya, a great vaggEyakaara devotee of lord tiruvEnkatamudaiyan, on account oh his 601 year tirunakshatra (vaishaaka maasam visaaka nakshatram) celebrations. he wrote about 32,000 kirtans gloryfyinh the lord and his passtimes and many more granthams like dwipada raamaayanam and sankirthana lakshanam, etc....
He was born as amsam of the devine sword (nandakam) of lord sri vekateshwara as the only son to smt. lakamaamba and sri naarayana soori dampathi's, a religious smartha brahmana couple, who lived in the village of tallapaka, in AP.
Annamayya devoped devotion and prapatti to lord srivenkateshwara at a tender age itself. he left his home at the age of 8 and settled in tirumala. he was introduced to sreevaishnavam by performing panchasamskaaram by a great acharya called ganavishnu at tirumala and he ordered him to sing a song for lord every day. later he married tirumaamma, who is also a great poet(she wrote subadra kalyanam and many more works).
Annamaacharya travelled to many of the tirtha skhetrams along with his wife and reached sri ahobilam, where he served srimad aadhivaan satagopa yatinya maha desikan, the first jeeyar of ahobila matam and mastered sreevaishnava siddhantham from him.
Once, he was travelling in a forest, a tribal lady named akkalamma was singing songs in praise of lord sree venkateshwara. being abosed by the bliss in the song, annamayya asked her what she wanted. she requested him to marry her. annamayya took it as bagavad agna and married akkalamma.
Salva narasingraaya askedannamayya to sing a song glorifyinh him and his wife. for which annamayya refused and said he will not gloryfy anybody except the supreme lord sriman narayana and mother lakshmi. the king became angry and sent him to jail. annamayya prayed to lord and was saved by lord.
Life of Annamacharya1) Annamacharya, The Saint-Composer was born in the year 1408 According to Telugu "PANCHANGAM"(calendar) the month & star of His birth are : Vyshakha Masam l Vishakha Nakshatram.
2) He hailed from TALLAPAKA. A village in Cuddapah district of Andhra Pradesh in INDIA.
3) He composed 32,000 Sankeertanas(devotional songs)and dedicated them to Lord Venkateswara swamy of tirumalai.
4) His Son, Pedda Tirumalacharya and Grandson, Chinatirumalacharya got the Sankeertanas of Annamacharya engraved on copper-plates and Treasured those Copper Plates in "Sankeertana Bhandaram"(a rock-built-cell at TIRUMALA temple).
5) Saint Annamacharya is the first" VAGGEYAKARA" (a person who can compose lyrics,music and sing) of Telugu Literature.
